Activity: Talk about what the students did over the weekend. Correct grammar where needed.
Objective: Participate in conversations on familiar topics in social and classroom situations. Communicate orally using common English conventions of syntax, grammar with consistency. Recognize and use correct sentence structure and syntax.
Assessment: When they are talking, make sure they are using the correct grammar.
Activity: Spelling Pretest
Objective: TSWBAT listen to a word they have more than likely never seen or heard before and differentiate between sounds so that they can spell words correctly by simply listening to the sounds.
Assessment: Pass out the words after the pretest and walk around to see how well they did on their own.
Activity: Literature Circles: Start The Pearl, by John Steinbeck
Objective: Participate in conversations on familiar topics in social and classroom situations. Gathering information orally; asking and answering questions. Participate in group discussions, staying on topic, and listening to others with teacher's guidance. Show the ability to maintain one-on-one dialogues. Extending and elaborating on other people's ideas and words. Using short sentences and phrases to tell stories, recount events, give directions, or provide opinions.
Assessment: The teacher will stamp the work the student should have completed for homework for the past week. If this is not done, the student(s) must go outside to finish their work. The will receive no points for incomplete work, and yet they are still responsible for doing their work. The teacher will also walk around the room to make sure the students are speaking in English and doing their work. Each student must answer each question.

Re-tell content of more involved stories and passages
Begin to summarize a reading selection.
Assessment: Teacher sits and listens to each student as they read their current event. This is where I correct their spoken English. They need to slow down and speak clearly so that the entire class can understand them. Many times, the articles that are chosen call for further discussion by the teacher and other students.

Activity: Literature Circles: The Pearl
Objective: Participate in conversations on familiar topics in social and classroom situations. Gathering information orally; asking and answering questions. Participate in group discussions, staying on topic, and listening to others with teacher's guidance. Show the ability to maintain one-on-one dialogues. Extending and elaborating on other people's ideas and words. Using short sentences and phrases to tell stories, recount events, give directions, or provide opinions.
Assessment: The teacher will stamp the work the student should have completed for homework for the past week. If this is not done, the student(s) must go outside to finish their work. The will receive no points for incomplete work, and yet they are still responsible for doing their work. The teacher will also walk around the room to make sure the students are speaking in English and doing their work. Each student must answer each question.
Activity: Watch some of the Pearl (The segment of where we are in the book)
Objective: Obtain information and complete assigned tasks by viewing, reading, and listening to a variety of media work.
