Prep Blood Drive

In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, the Prep's ASB officers are hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, October 30th. Donors can schedule appointments between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. - scheduling is done online at http://www.givelife.org/index.cfm?group=registration&hlc=fpa, or you may email me with your requested appointment time and I can add you in.

Blood saves lives, and is always needed - every two seconds someone in America needs blood. The Red Cross serves as the bridge between more than 4 million generous blood donors and millions of patients in need each year.

Giving blood is a simple thing to do... the donation process - from the time you arrive until the time you leave - takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about ten minutes. To view a list of frequently asked questions about donating blood, go here: http://www.givelife2.org/donor/faq.asp.

Our goal is to get at least 36 donors - please help us out and consider donating, and pass this information along to anyone who might be interested. To give blood you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days), or given a donation of double red cells in the last 16 weeks (111 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.

Check out the following "Top 10 Reasons to Donate Blood":

  • 10. You will get free juice and cookies.
  • 9. You will weigh less - one pint less when you leave than when you came in.
  • 8. It's easy and convenient - it only takes about an hour and you can make the donation at a donor center, or at one of the many Red Cross mobile blood drives.
  • 7. It's something you can spare - most people have blood to spare... yet, there is still not enough to go around.
  • 6. Nobody can ask you to do any heavy lifting as long as you have the bandage on. You can wear it for as long as you like. It's your badge of honor.
  • 5. You will walk a little taller afterwards - you will feel good about yourself.
  • 4. You will be helping to ensure that blood is there when you or someone close to you may need it. Most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do.
  • 3. It's something you can do on equal footing with the rich and famous - blood is something money can't buy. Only something one person can give to another.
  • 2. You will be someone's hero - you may give a newborn, a child, a mother or a father, a brother, or a sister another chance at life. In fact, you may help save up to three lives with just one donation.
  • 1. It's the right thing to do.
